Saffron
is a traditional herb originating from the mediterranean and
middle east. It has always been used in cooking and foods, primarily
for it's intense flavor adding a pleasant aroma to the many recipes
it is used in. One of the most expensive spices, it is often
claimed to be more expensive the gold!

wonder ingredient is conducted, the number of valuable effects

Saffron is a fine reddish yellow powder that is made by grinding
the dried stigma, the orange filaments at the center of the Saffron
(Crocus Sativa) flower (see image at right). As you can imagine,
this produces very small amounts of the powder which explain
it's cost. The primary flavor characteristic of Saffron powder
is its very intense color and subtle and popular flavor.
The health benefits which are only now becoming known, include,
an effective treatment for depression. Saffron is a natural mood
lifter. It is unknown if the effect is from the actual herb itself,
or the aroma-therapeutic benefit of it's aroma.
In addition to improving one's mood, several studies have shown
conclusive improvement in digestion, cough relief, relief for
muscle aches and spasms, and a mild improvement in calming anxiety.
Saffron is also a good source of the B2 vitamin.
