The Golnazar story begins in old Tehran in the country of Iran, when a Hossain Golnazar was a young boy. In Iran confections are considered to be a delicacy and somewhat of a badge of family honor. As a child in Iran, Hossain saw, smelled the aroma of, and tasted many wonderful treats, but the one he liked the best was ice cream!

In 1947 when Hossain became a young man, he decided to work in an ice cream store, and learned to make ice cream by hand (there were not batch freezers or high technology at that time!) in the back of the store, while selling it to smiling customers out in the front. At the time, in one of the famous Tehran neighborhoods, Ghanatabad. His goal? Simply to make one thing and one thing alone, namely the best ice cream anyone had tasted. gol

By 1958 Golnazar started his own ice cream business, and was well on his way to success, with his now legendary (and still secret) formula for Saffron flavored ice cream. The unique blend of saffron, and other ingredients gave the ice cream a great reputation, and soon Golnazar was famous throughout Iran.

In 1969 business was booming partially as a result of Hossain's vision and interest in a new technical marvel called the batch freezer, which helped produce better ice cream easier and faster than the hand mix method he had pioneered years before. Golnazar opened his first factory in order to keep up with demand, and he eventually went on to be President of the tehran Ice Cream Association as well as a key member of the board of director's of Tehran's Ice Cream Union.

Founded by Hossain's 2 children, son Mehdi and daughter Mitra Golnazar, the tradition of bringing the best ice cream you have tasted, continues now here in America!

Mehdi Golnazar is the youngest son of Hossain, and worked for his father in Iran for 27 years, and ran the factory and store. This intensive internship instilled a great tradition and sense of customer service and professionalism, something that is a hallmark of Mehdi's business credo and what people notice about Golnazar and him personally, immediately.

Mitra is the youngest of the Golnazar family and manages the sales and marketing operation in the US.
